The Nashville Symphony Association was formed in 1946 when a group of prominent citizens led by the late Walter Sharp, recognized the need for an organized effort to specifically maintain a Symphony Orchestra and to generally promote the arts.
The Harmony Award is presented annually at the Nashville Symphony Ball to individuals who have demonstrated continued interest and support of music in Nashville. In addition to exemplifying the unique harmony between the many worlds of music that exist in our city, recipients must have contributed significantly to the development and appreciation of Nashville's musical culture.
The Symphony Ball is Nashville's premier winter social event and one of the Nashville Symphony's two annual fundraisers. Since its inception in 1985, the Ball has raised a total of nearly $7 million for the Symphony, sustaining the organization's mission of achieving excellence in musical performance and educational programs, while engaging the community, enriching audiences and shaping cultural life.
